ВPThe programme was different from what I was used to, mostly because the main focus of the semester is the group project. Working in a group brings in different perspectives from every member and can be very helpful and fun at the same time because everyone comes from different backgrounds and has a certain experience. Our group project was theoretical and it meant a great deal of research. This introduced me to different theories or studies and created a basis for future projects ideas for me. Another difference was the informal relationship we had with the teachers and their close support for our projects, which made the adapting process very pleasant.ВP

ВPAfter finishing my Bachelor in Communication and PR in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, I looked for a programme that could combine this with my other interests: music and audio production. I studied Medialogy in Esbjerg as part of the Media Production joint master programme I chose.

Finally, SHMS offers a 6-month internships every year for the second semester starting from February until the end of July. This kind of program helps students to gain practice knowledge and a wonderful experience working for different companies. These internships are offered in Switzerland and all over the world. All you have to do is to write a CV (Curriculum Vitae) and apply for the selected companies. For my first year, I have chosen to work in Disneyland Orlando (Florida) in Merchandising department for my 6-month internship. I think, this experience will bring me an enormous knowledge and pleasure working for this well-known company. I am certain, that I will never forget this first career internship.

Apart from studies, there are many places, where you can spent your leisure time. Since the school is international, you have a great chance to meet many fantastic peple from many different countries and even continents. Throughout time, all the students gather together and take rides to different cities in Switzerland or, especially in winter time, enjoy skiing or snowboarding close to the school campus. Some others, including me, visit a large sports hall with ice-ring all year long, which is very low in cost, if you are a student from SHMS. There are extremely many activities to create even, if it is simply a quite village up high in the mountains.

SHMS offers 3 years of BA (Bachelor Degree) and 1 year of MA (Masters Degree). It is also possible to be a PGD (Post-Graduate Diploma) Student at SHMS, even if you have other education(s) behind. The 1st and 2nd years are all the same for the new upcomers of SHMS. During the 1st year of your study you learn about kitchen and service mainly and the 2nd year provides you mostly of front office and housekeeping knowledge. In addition SHMS provides other subjects such as: Food and Beverage Management, where you have to understand the concept of all Restaurants, Accounting Principles, where you lear how to run a business in future Hospitality Studies, where you can explore different industries, Kitchen and service practice and theory, where cooking and serving is practiced, Wine and Bar, where you can lear about different types of wines and spirits and many more. For the 3rd year it is up to you to choose which direction would you want to continue. The options are as follows: Events Management, Tourism management or Hospitality Management. Apart from these choices you can also combine them if you would like to do 2 choices at the same time. This is a great opportunity to explore more Hospitality areas at the same time. At this point, I am thinking of getting a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management and continue my career in this area.

First impressionвІ is considered to be one of the most important parts of this industry and SHMS showed it from the most pozitive sides that it could. Highly educated lecturers, friendly and motivated students, well-organized learning programs, planned leisure activities, a wonderful campus and many more had a huge impression on me and I understood straight away that this is where I want to continue my education.ВP

After graduating with the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma in a Swiss Boarding School, I decided to continue with my education here in Switzerland. Finally, my choice was SHMS – Swiss Hotel Management School (Leysin), located on the top of the mountain in a Swiss – French part of Switzerland. A wonderful landscape and a positive atmosphere with lovely local people around attracted me immediately, even though I have not been to this part of Switzerland before. In Hospitality – вІ

When I first started to think about my career, one of the first things that came into my mind was trying myself out in a Hospitality industry. Surely, it is not an easy option, but from the other hand, the opportunities offered in this area gave me a huge motivation ahead. I knew that Hospitality is where I really belong to.
